Ben Gothorp, Technical Officer at McCreath Simpson and Prentice (MSP), has been nominated for the prestigious Barrie Orme Shield, an award given to the top BASIS exam candidate in the UK.
The industry accreditation for those who advise on the topic of crop protection, the BASIS qualification involves a written exam, practical identification, a research project and oral tests.
Ben’s BASIS certificate in Crop Protection has equipped him with further knowledge and understanding that he can pass on to MSP customers.
Introduced in 2000 and named after Barrie Orme, who established the BASIS organisation and worked as its Chief Executive for many years, the annual BASIS Barrie Orme Shield recognises young agronomists who have demonstrated outstanding performance in the BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection.
Speaking about the nomination, David Cairns, Agrochemical & Technical Services Director at MSP, said “We are incredibly proud of Ben’s results in his BASIS certificate exams and a nomination for the Barrie Orme Shield is excellent news. To be nominated for this accolade is a great achievement, and his certificate will further enhance the technical support he can offer our farming customers.”
Ben added: “Passing my BASIS certificate in Crop Protection is a proud achievement and one I worked hard to gain. My role at MSP allows me to put my new accreditation to great use every single day.”
The winner of the Barrie Orme Shield will be announced in Autumn 2019.
